The biggest congregation was led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at the historic Jamia Masjid in the Old City.
Thousands attended the Friday congregation at the Jamia Masjid.
People stood up in queues on the adjacent roads to attend the congregation.
However, soon after the congregation ended, youth took out a protest march against the ‘Indian rule’, but the government forces present in huge number attempted to foil it.
Youth and government forces engaged in stone hurling clashes in Nowhatta and Saraf Kadal. A local woman identified as Shameema and a youth, whose identity couldn’t be ascertained received pellet injuries in the clashes, news wires reported.
Clashes continued till late in the day.
In Rainawar, youth shouted anti-Isreal slogans and burnt an Isreal flag.i
