Kashmir police’s bid to prevent gun-snatching: four key takeaways

In a bid to prevent weapon snatching, the police has banned use of smartphones by its sentries during duty time. Here are the four key takeaways:

1: Police believe weapon-snatching incidents have occurred due to sentries on duty remaining engaged with their smartphones for most of the time.
2: No sentry will now be allowed to carry smartphone during duty hours and all police guards on duty would have to wear bullet proof gear and chain their weapons with their belts properly.
3: Officers will have to take hourly situation report from all company commanders. All guard personnel shall ensure compliance of the standing drill in letter and spirit.
4: Commandants of police battalions will also be held responsible in case militants snatch weapons.
