Kashmir: 2 teen girls missing, minor rescued from ‘kidnapper’ in 2 days

Two families have reported that their teenage girls are missing while a minor girl was rescued from the “clutches of a kidnapper” in the last two days in Kashmir division, a police officer said here on Monday.

He told the Kashmir Dispatch that police have sought help from the public to trace the two missing girls from Srinagar and Anantnag district. Zakera Bibi, a resident of Reasi in Jammu, an who is currently residing in Mattan in Kashmir, has told us that her 18-year old daughter, Reenaz Jan, is missing from since May 12, the officer said.

He said Reenaz is about 5.4 feet tall and is fair, adding police have filed a case against unknown persons and were probing the matter.

In Srinagar, a resident of Rajouri in Jammu has told the police that his teenage sister is missing. 19-year old, Rubina Akhter, was currently residing in Taelbal. “We are also probing this case and appeal to the public to come forward and help the police,” the official said.

Police have also cracked the case of an alleged kidnapping involving a minor girl from Bandepur district.

On May 10, Mohammad Ramzan Handoo, a resident of Leharwalpur, had had told the police that on May 9 his 15-year old sister went out for some personal work and did not return home. Handoo had the police that after frenetic searches they got to know that Mohammad Shafi Ganie, a resident of Dangerpur in Sopore sub-district, had kidnapped the teenager.

“The girl was traced from Handwor and the accused involved was arrested. After completion of legal formalities, the girl was handed over to her family,” the officer told Kashmir Dispatch.
