Police came under militant fire after they raided a house to detain a varsity student accused of stone-pelting in south Kashmir’s Auentpur town in Pulwom district last night, reliable sources told Kashmir Dispatch.

The sources said that a police team raided the house of Tassaduq Rashid Bhat, a B.Tech student of Islamic University of Science and Technology, during night hours. They said that the student was allegedly involved in recent protests and stone-throwing at the varsity and police had come to detain him.

The sources told Kashmir Dispatch that as the police party entered house of the Tassaduq, they asked his father Abdul Rashid about his son’s whereabouts. As the conversation was on, the sources said, the policemen came under a volley of fire from one of rooms inside the house.

Sources said that a group of militants were present inside the house and the policemen were apparently unaware about presence of a group of militants. The police also retaliated the fire, but militants managed to escape from the windows of the house. There were however no injuries on the either side.

But soon after the incident, police not only detained the the varsity student but also took away his father Abdul Rashid. Both have been detained at Auentpur police station and are being questioned, the sources added.
