Shepherd killed in blast near Indian army base in Kashmir

A shepherd was killed in a mysterious blast in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.

Official sources said that the shepherd Ashiq Hussain Chopan of Gutroo, Tral suffered serious injuries in the explosion at upper reaches of Awantipora forests near Barsoo adjacent to army’s Victor force headquarter.

The shepherd was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital in the unconscious state where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

A police officer said that they have launched the investigations to ascertain the nature of the blast.

“It is premature to say anything what happened actually, some reports suggested that the shepherd stepped on a landmine which exploded resulting in his death,” the officer said, adding that it will get clear after proper investigations.

The area where the blast took place is army’s firing range, the officer said.
