Kashmir youth injured as army opens fire in Shupian

A youth was injured after army opened fire upon a group of protesters in Jammu and Kashmir Shupian district on Sunday, sources and witnesses confirmed.

Official sources said that army’s patrol at Barthipora village of the district, in the south of Kashmir valley, opened fire upon a group of youth who were holding ant-India demonstrations and were hurling stones at the government forces.

In the incident, Adil Ahmad Wagay of Nadpora in the district received bullet wound his right leg, medical sources confirmed.

Adil was immediately hospitalized, however, his condition is said to be stable.

Senior Superintendent of Police in Shupian, Shri Ram Ambarkar, said that police are ascertaining what actually happened. “We are in touch with the concerned army unit to ascertain what exactly happened there,” he said.
