Police say wanted Hizb commander’s aide held during Kashmir raid

A militant-helper who was working closely with a wanted commander was arrested during a raid in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwom district on Thursday, police in neighbouring Kulgam district said.

Police said they arrested Showkat Ahmad Lone, who was tasked to snatch weapons and attack government forces by Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo, during a raid and recovered a pistol and four rounds from him.

Police sources said after acting on a specific input Lone was arrested after they raided a house in Chursoo village in Auentpur in neighbouring Pulwom district.

Shridhar Patil, the senior superintendent of police in Kulgam, told a local news wire: “Lone was given a task by Hizb divisional commander Naikoo to carry out attacks and snatch weapons from government forces.”

Lone has been booked under the arms and  enemy agents ordinance act.
