At least 20 cell phones and other electronic gadgets were recovered from a prison after raids by police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Varmul district, an official said on Wednesday.
“A joint search was conducted by police and jail authorities during intervening night in the northern district’s lone sub jail on the basis of information that some incriminating material including unauthorised cellphones are being used inside the jail premises,” an official told Kashmir Dispatch here.
While conducting the search, 20 cellphones and some incriminating material was recovered from the possession of jail inmates.
The official said a FIR has been registered and investigation is on as to how these articles which are not authorised as per jail manual have made entry into jail premises.
“Police is as well investigating the role of jail staff if any,” the official said.
Earlier as well cellphones and other articles were recovered from jail in various search operations by police in the same jail.
