A gunfight raged after government forces on Thursday cordoned off Padgampur area of south Kashmir’s Auentpur to conducted searches as they suspect presence of some insurgents. Locals said gunshots were heard after forces sealed all the entry and exit points.
Two insurgents were killed in a fierce gun battle broke out on Thursday morning between forces and Lashkar-e-Toiba militants in Padgampora area of Pulwon district.
“The slain militants have been identified as Jehangir Ganai and Mohammad Shafi alias Sher Gujri,” a senior CRPF officer said, adding that Ganai was involved in the killing of a local policeman last year.
Intense clashes are happening at the encounter site in Padgampura. There are minor injuries to scores of youth.
Reports say that one local insurgent Jahangir resident of Qoil Pulwom killed in ongoing gunfight.

A senior police officer told Kashmir Dispatch that they are pushing one of the insurgents to surrender and his family has been called in to persuade him.
Sources say at least 2 to 3 insurgents are trapped inside the area.
Police sources say that the unarmed population is being moved out from the area which is under cordon.
Firing between insurgents and armed forces has stopped since past hour, sources have told Kashmir Dispatch.
Local train service between Banihal in Jammu division and Auentpur in Kashmir have been suspended.
