Thousands of people in south Kashmir’s Shupian district today participated in the funeral prayers of a teen, who died at a hospital here, four days after sustaining injuries in the firing by the government forces.
17-year-old, Amir Bashir Lone, was seriously hurt on Friday last when government forces used teargas canisters and fired pellets to disperse a group of pro-Independence demonstrators in Sedow area of the southern district.
He was admitted to the Valley’s premier SK institute of medical sciences, in the disputed region’s summer capital Srinagar, where he succumbed to his injuries this morning. With his death, the toll in the ongoing uprising has reached 58.
Witnesses said that hundreds of people assembled near Lone’s house in Sedow this morning when the teenager’s body draped in a white shroud was brought home.
His body was taken in a procession that passed through different areas drawing more and more people.
Amidst tears, sobs and vociferous pro-Azadi and anti-India slogans, he was laid to rest.
