‘Rioters posing as pilgrims enter Jammu’, govt seals entry point

The Jammu and Kashmir government Monday sealed the lone entry point to the state after complains that rioters posing as pilgrims had entered into the state as they did during the Amarnath land row in 2008, a local news agency reported.

A cleric from Jammu told news gathering agency CNS that hundreds of rioters have already managed to enter into Jammu city and they have informed the government about this development and demanded an immediate crackdown.

“We have proof that at least five hundred rioters are staying with the BJP, RSS and VHP leaders and it is they who are attacking our worship places here. They must be identified and thrown out from the Jammu City,” one of the Jammu Muslim said.

He added that some top police officials have assured them that no rioter from outside would be allowed to enter the city.

Reports said that right wing groups are hell bent to put Jammu city on fire. A senior police official told CNS on condition of anonymity that soon after receiving inputs the government sealed Lakhanpur Entry-point and no one from outside is being allowed to enter into Jammu city.

Highly placed sources told CNS that some fanatic leaders have provided accommodation to these rioters in their houses and party headquarters. “These rioters are acting as Amarnath and Vishno Devi pilgrims. They stay in tents meant for pilgrims and it becomes very difficult for the government to differentiate between real yatris and rioters,” one of the officers said.

A top officer said that government would not allow anyone to exploit the situation. “We have learnt lessons from 2008 agitation and no one would be allowed to repeat that,” he said.
