Amid official claims of elaborate arrangements during New Year celebrations at world famous tourist resort Gulmarg, tourists, locals and media people dismissed the claims alleging that the facilities provided on the occasion were inadequate.
“The celebrations brought miseries to the tourists and visitors on December 31 while the media people were put at their own mercy”, said a local visitor.
“People who were invited to the function organized by Department of Tourism on the view of New Year celebrations were not provided adequate accommodation or hygienic food’, said one of the media persons who were part of the media team visiting Gulmarg.
“It is first time in our career that the authorities were so negligent and irresponsible. We spent the whole night in freezing Gulmarg with out any heating system and the food served was extremely unhygienic”, he added.
Director Tourism Talat Parveez said that he had warned the hoteliers against providing poor services to the people and media persons, adding, “We have extended them much support and cooperation but still if they are not capable of providing satisfactory services it is unfortunate”.
He said that he would look into the matter to make the things better, adding “I apologize to the media persons for inconvenience they suffered”.
Meanwhile, hoteliers said that the rooms were provided as a compliment to the Department of Tourism and possible services were provided to the people staying in those rooms.
