Clashes erupted in parts of Old City, in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar, after a group of youth tried to take out a march demanding release of Muslim League chairman Ashiq Hussian, alias Dr Qasim Faktoo, witnesses say.
Groups of youth clashed with government forces who were deputed in strength in Saraf Kadal aimed a shutdown called by Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani against the High Court judgment stating that Dr Qasim, who was given lifer in a case, would have to remain in jail till natural death.
Witnesses say groups of youth shouting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans clashed with the government forces who used tear smoke shells to disperse them. “Youth hurled stones at forces triggering clashes,” they said.
